I was invited to go to Boston and see some friends. It was to run a small workshop at the end of the event on safety gear, but it turned out to be a little more than just that. I invited O to come with me on this adventure.
The ride to Boston
When we left Montreal at 9 a.m., we were not sure what the weather would be — every website was changing its prediction every hour — so we brought lots of clothing. We took in all the beauty of Vermont: green and calm. I believe we got 2 drops of rain. We had a small meal on the road under the sun and called friends to let them know all was well. It was easier than expected.
Boston — Day 1
Jay, a friend I met 2 years ago at Le Loft in Montreal, offered us his hospitality. We were a little tired — I have to admit we got lost twice even with the GPS. After an 8-hour ride you need to relax. He introduced us to his friends, who were also great. They are rope lovers at different levels.
We went to the mall where I found a toy — I had been searching for a knife like this one for years. The one I bought is not a real one; it is a practice knife with no blade, as those are illegal in Canada. We also found the market very large and very reminiscent of Montreal’s Old Port. To end the day we went to the ocean beach. At night we played frisbee and played on the sand while some kids set off fireworks. A nice way to break the ice with our new friends.
Boston — Day 2
We slept in a little, which I understand given the travel. Jay showed us a cemetery with a tower from which you can see the entire city — like our Mont-Royal, it was very nice. I took some pictures; we will see if they turned out well. Afterwards we went to the bondage workshop. I learned lots of little things, like pegs and rings — very useful for fast bondage.
I also learned many new hojojutsu games — fun and challenging at the same time.
After the workshop we went to a nice house party where I performed some suspensions with O. We watched others playing at different levels — like in Montreal, everyone was having fun, whether watching or playing.
The return
I bought another raincoat for O — the rain was light, but 8 hours under light rain is miserable. We removed them twice when the sun came back and it got very warm. The return was faster than the trip there. I recommend Boston to everyone for a light vacation.
