Some time ago there was a huge argument about someone stealing a style from someone else — very drama-queen style.
For me, I see a big difference between those terms.
A copycat is someone stealing a show entirely — same costume, same act. This can be a big issue, not only for the sake of art but because some try to make money from it.
A remake is someone performing the same act but with their own vision of it, so with some differences. It would be great to credit the original.
Inspiration is something I find normal in the evolution of any art form. We see something and try to make it better or adapt it to our needs. I was very inspired by Midori and Osada Steve, as well as RiggerJay and Master Vito. I try to develop my own style, but I find things I like in others that inspire me to create a performance.
We just have to give respect to the people who inspired us, try to improve on it, and keep things positive. And yes, people copy some of my things — some even do it better than me, especially in photography. I see that as flattering.
Stealing ideas for money or power is something I have an issue with. But that should be another topic.
