In the past I was using a pulley to raise a suspension — very normal. But with this setup you lose at least a foot in the air for the pulley itself, another foot for the swivel device, and the suspension equipment. It is also very difficult to inspect the equipment after installation when everything is set at 20 feet. I ran into this problem during the last festival — doing inspections after the second day was a real pain.
So I worked on it in my mind and found a solution.
I install a simple pulley in the air with a heavy rope on it — a black nylon one, the same length as the ceiling height — connected to the pulley system on one side and the suspension on the other. The pulley system needs to be rigged to something strong on the floor.
This setup allows you to inspect the equipment after each use and also gains a few extra feet. When you leave the venue, you simply leave part of the equipment behind.
